THE HAPPY SCREENWRITER: What to take home from Santa Fe!
In this delightful Sunday morning seminar with author, screenwriter, and artist, Maggie TerryViale (an SCSFe Founding Member who has never missed a Conference), you'll explore the question, What does it mean to be happy with your life and what you're doing with it? Is happiness something that just comes to some of us, but not all of us? Does it just happen out of the blue? Or can we actually take control of our emotions?

And, more specifically, what about happiness in our screenwriting endeavors? Can you enjoy the process even if the results don't come as quickly as you want? This seminar is designed to assist you with lasting motivational hints and insights long after the glow of SCSFe might fade.

With Maggie's guidance you will learn some of the basic foundations of what brings a screenwriter joy, and how to stay in that productive mode that makes your fingers fly across the keys. Maggie will also provide "Stepping Stones" worksheets from her book, Happiness Awaits You. The worksheets are designed to empower you to hold to your creative dreams as you work toward your screenwriting goals.

FADE OUT Seminar: A CONVERSATION WITH HOWARD SUBER
In a meeting with the head of a studio, Howard Suber referred to all the creative people on planet Earth who might be as talented as the people who were then working in the industry, but would never get a chance to make their films. The executive fixed Suber's eyes and said: "Howard, I think all the really talented people are making films."

Is this Darwinian view accurate? What's the difference between those who "make it" and those who don't? Drawing upon his experience with thousands of film students at UCLA over the past 45 years, Howard Suber offers his observations on "success" and having a career in films.

Suber, author of the highly acclaimed book, The Power of Film, will illustrate his points by discussing the careers of some of his favorite UCLA graduates, including Alexander Payne (Sideways, About Schmidt), Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Avatar), Laura Gabbert (No Impact Man; Sunset Story), and Sacha Gervasi (Anvil: The Story of Anvil; The Terminal).
